I am just reading about the great lives of some Japanese who have already zoom past the age where people don’t expect them to be productive, and come up with some great quotes.
Yuichiro Miura is the oldest person to scale Mt. Everent when in 2003, at age 70, he scaled the roof of the world. He said, ” When you’re getting older, you think about the things you can’t do and all the reasons. But if I have to die in a hospital, I might as well die on Everest.”
He is now training to scale Everent in 2008 at age 75. His daily regimen includes walking everywhere with more than 20 kilos of weight strapped to his back and ankles - even if he is coming home from a drinking part. “ Its good exercise, and I get sober.”
May Ushiyama still manages her beauty saloon at the age of 94, which now occupies several floors in Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills. She has no intention of retiring. “It’s stupid to die before you’re 80″, she admonishes the young.
Dr Shigeaki Hinohara wrote his best seller How to Live Well in 2001 which sold more than 1.2 million copies, and he is considered as Japan’s guru on healthy aging. Now he is 94, and still going strong as a doctor, a part time poet, novelist, and composer. He is considering new ways to keep himself busy. ” When I get to 95, I’ll take up golf. I’ll finally have the spare time.”
