November 10th, 2005 by Administrator

project management hardhatHere are some Books on Project Management that I would like to rcommend during the course of my learning ( and also still trying to write a proj. management handbook of which some initial chapters are here) and my rating ( 1 to 5 stars - 5 stars being best):

1.) Thomsett, Michael ( 2002), The Little Black Book of Project Management, New York: Amacom
– **** Excellent entry level project management book containing a collection of basic information that you will need to handle and manage projects. Not very technical or formal, but contains lots of practical and common sense tips on handling projects.

2.) Turner, J Rodney (1999), Handbook of Project Based Management 2nd edition , London:McGraw-Hill
– **** Excellent advanced level book that blends practical experience with rigorous theoretical approach to the subject. Have good examples from a wide range of industries, and good coverage of latest procedures and practices.

3.) Lock, Dennis, ( 2001), The Essentials of Project Management, 2nd Edition, Ashford, England: Gower
- **** This book is a distilled version of the author’s comprehensive Project Management Book, and provides a concise and straightforward account of the principles and techniques of project management, also specially designed for the non-specialist.

4.) Verzuh, Eric ( 1999), The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management, New York: John Wiley
- ***** Even if you know the basics of project management, this book have many practical tips and recommendations that are worth you getting. Lots of charts and graphs delving deeply into actual scenarios and applications

5.) Brooks, Frederick Jr., (1995), The Mythical Man Month 2nd edition, MA: Addison Wesley
- **** The 1975 Classic on software project management which provides facts and thought provoking opinions on anybody managing complex projects. Recently launch new second version after 20 years but amazingly, most of the analysis still holds.

6.) Project Management Institute (2000), A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, Project Management Institute

– ***** The definitive guide to the latest developments and practices of project management
Project Management Institute ( 2001), The PMI Project Management Fact Book 2nd edition , Project Management Institute.

7.) Project Management Institute ( 2001), The PMI Project Management Fact Book 2nd edition , Project Management Institute
-*** It contains essential facts and figures about the growth and practice of project management.
