The Tendency to Worry

November 24th, 2005 by Administrator

clown with smiling faceMost entrepreneurs are self made people. They are people who see opportunities rather than problems. A large part of them tend to be too confident or too optimistic. While this positive disposition helps them gets started, the act of going into business with your own, in which you hold on the reins the potential of your rise and fall ( and including that of others) does add a lot of pressure, and introduce a lot of worries than if you are just merely employed.

One of the things that is important to succeed, or to sustain success is the ability to handle problems, or to handle the tendency to worry.

For this, it is important that the entrepreneur relish the challenge, and enjoy the journey , rather than keep his eyes fixed to be happy only when he has succeed. This quote from Alfred D’Souza is a big help:

” For a long time, it seemed to be me that life was about to begin. Real life. but there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, some responsibility, time to be served, debts to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. “

There is this another oft repeated story of an entrepreneur whose business failed. He relates being at his lowest ebb and being invited to his friend’s house for the weekend. He was at a point where he did not have enough money for food, and was depressed. It was a striking revelation to find that his friend was equally depressed- the reason that the imported cabinets he had ordered to impress his guest has not arrived, and he was too busy worrying about his kitchen’s ability to serve food to his visitors.

Everyone has problems — and we always think that our problems are greater than other people. But what always amuses is at the end , we worry about things — we may even worry we are not worrying. We will worry about big things when they are there, and when they are not there, we will worry about smaller things with equal ferocity.

There will always be things to worry - whether you are an entrepreneur or not. But that is life - and since it is inevitable, the earlier you have an effective strategy to deal with it, the more successful (well, maybe not successful in the sense of the word, but surely happier!) you will become.
