Knowing what Happened

I am a fan of mysteries, and even went so far to assert that the management case can be treated like a whodunit puzzle. Here is a Sherlock Holmes story that illustrates how a person fails to understand what is happening, which is one of the first things a detective, and an entrepreneur should know.
Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson were on a camping trip and in the middle of the night Holmes woke up and nudged the faithful Dr Watson. “Look up at the sky Watson and tell me what you see…” he said
Watson replied “I see millions and millions of stars.”
“What does that tell you Watson?” said Holmes
“Well… astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Meterologically, I suspect we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. Why Holmes, what does it tell you?”
Holmes was silent for a moment, then spoke…
“It tells me my dear Watson that someone has stolen our tent”.

I enjoy my life, but my work is my life….
People may say, get a life, but I do feel an immense sense of fulfillment doing all these things…. that is why I said I have a bizdrivenlife, but then again, it is not for everyone, and notwithstanding, I am looking to find some balance as well and more time with the family.

Okay, so there is data and there is info. And data is useless until you have applied it to the problem so that it becomes info. Yet all applications are relevant in their particular place. Watson was not wrong, he was just applying the data in a different area than was Holmes.
I like the technique of using a story to illustrate the point. Afer all, the greatest storyteller of all time used them in this way. He just called them parables, however…
