The Peter Drucker Legacy of Gems

I have been reviewing some materials on the legacy ofPeter Drucker. I’d like to cite some of his ideas, and writings:
1. Understanding what your Business is all about.
- Ask yourself always, ” Who is our customer, and what does he consider value?”
- ” There is no business without a customer!”
2. Questions Drucker posed to Jack Welch shortly after he became CEO.
- “If you weren’t already in a business, would you enter it today?”
- ” And if the answer is no, what are you going to do about it?”
3. When asked where he got his insights.
- ” I Learn only through listening ….. to myself. ”
4. On Leadership
-” Don’t ever think or say I. Think and say we. Effective leaders know they have authority only because they have the trust of the organization.”
5. On Talent
-” Attracting and holding talent are the two central tasks of management. Knowledge workers have many options, and should be treated and managed as volunteers. They’re interested in personal achievement, and personal responsibility. They expect continuous learning and training. They want respect and authority. Give it to them.”
6. ON work.
-” Focus on opportunities rather than problems. Problem solving prevents damage, but exploiting opportunities produces results. Unless there is a true crisis, problems shouldn’t even be discussed at management meetings until opportunities have been analyzed and dealt with. Exploit change as an opportunity, and don’t view it as a threat.

He was a wonderful teacher.
Even those that ran their business like a jail gave lip service to his ideas.
Those that actually used his ideas prospered.
