Pitfalls of Success

Mel Gibson was caught last july 28 driving under the influence of liquor, and was alleged to make despicable anti-Semitic remarks when arrested. He later apologized for his remarks, and admitted that he have a lifelong problem with alcoholism.

I remember Mel Gibson as a great actor, who have made films that may not necessarily have good influence ( like Mad Max), and some that are inspirational( Passion of the Christ, Braveheart).

Does success make it easier for you to be a good or bad person? Popularity makes you into role models, and also the object of attention. Success can destroy one easily due to pressures of the job, easy access to things that money and influence can buy ( which is a reason why celebrities find it hard to maintain their marriage or most of them have drug or drinking problems). But success can also give you the means to do good ( everybody is yearning to provide financial support — it is not too difficult for celebrities to be ambassadors of goodwill etc).

At the end, with material success or not, it is up to us to be a positive force for ourselves, and for our friends and family.
