Just saw this ad on how to make your legs beautiful, and I thought the phrase catchy, ” The Legs you bear can become the Legs you Bare.”

Here’s a new article I just read in Forbes– an interview with Larry Ellison, Oracle’s boss. This is what he says when he was interviewed if Microsoft, or Oracle should be envious of Google.
” It is hard to believe that Microsoft has Google envy. We’re in the software business–we don’t do ads. We’re not going to sell ads on top of our database.”
Larry Ellison can be flamboyant, but I think there are many business models, and what is important is not what is hot, but what is the core competence that you can do better than anybody else. Online advertising may be the hot thing, but at the end, you have to do a great job on it to benefit from the trend.

The Holy Grail in management is getting things done. How do you get more done? Let me give you an analogy.
A colleague was complaining that his computer was getting slow. He had a fast processor, and lots of memory. I noted that it was slow because he was in a habit of having over a dozen windows opened at one time. Even the fastest computer would slow to a crawl by his habit of opening and not closing because he was always afraid that he would miss it out. So he kept all emails that he needed to answer open, etc.
There is” an inverse proportion of how fast your computer will perform to the number of windows you open ” in the same way that there is an “inverse propeortion on how much something is in your mind and how much is getting done. ”
The trick of course is to tackle each open window, get it done, and close it. Or close it temporarily while making a note to open it sometime in the future. Ditto with your tasks. Write it down. Make a note on how and when you are going to do it, and then get on with the other tasks instead of keeping it constantly floating and open in your mind.

In my blog, I had 5 posts in June, and 55 posts in July. I sort of took a break in June, and it was good. On May and June, I accepted the responsibility to do the Cebu Business Month, an expo in behalf of our chamber of commerce.
It was a very busy 2 months, and things I used to do in my business ( and in my blog) were interrupted as the expo occupied most of my time. It ended last June, and this month, I was back to my normal routines in life and in business. Now I am back Read the rest of this entry »
