A month back I wrote about the responsibility of managing.

It is not only managers have responsibility.  Employees have too.  Here is a blog post that laments how some people are waning in their commitment - to their own detriment.  You can argue with him on this, ( and some comments did) but always know that you may win the argument but at the end, employers and companies are always on the lookout for people who have the commitment such that they can be trusted.

We were giving a talk to a group of high school students about career guidance, when a student asked my fellow speaker, ” Sir, what do you think are things that will make you become a successful man or businessman?”

The answer of my fellow speaker was something that I would remember, even though this happened three years ago.

“My friend, you are actually asking me two questions.  The first thing you have to note is that if becoming a successful person and becoming a successful businessman are two different things.  Successful businessman can be that your business is doing well, and earning money, among other things.  Successful person can also be that you are fulfilled, and happy, and contributing your share towards family and society.”

“A successful businessman can be a failure in family life, and can be a person that is unhappy.  A successful person may not necessarily have to be a businessman, or not necessarily earning lots of money. You can be a successful person by becoming a good parent, a good teacher, or a good craftsman.”

“You can be a successful person even if you fail in business or earning lots of money.  YOu can be a successful businessman but a failure in life.”
