Maybe I read too many motivational books ( I’ve been reading them for the last 25 years). There is something in reading these how-to success and management books that gets you all perk up and excited, but when you read too many , you start to find that while there are sincere writers, some authors may just be making money pulling your leg.
Nothing makes you more excited that when you are made to be convinced that in this world, anybody can be a CEO or president, and they can be as powerful as their dreams can be or as rich as King Midas, and they can become what they can visualize. All it takes is a positive mental attitude, positive thinking, can-do, or other mantras. Does the number of knowledge workers define a country’s potential growth as well as its economic placing? If so, then it is a worthwhile indicator that needs focus to increase.
Number of Knowledge Workers Increasing in Taiwan
The number of knowledge workers in Taiwan totalled 3.2 million between January and November 2006, up 3.2 per cent over the year-earlier level, according to tallies released Tuesday by the Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD).
The figure compares with 2.35 million in 1996 and 3.07 million in 2005, CEPD officials said.
During the first 11 months of 2006, the number of knowledge workers
accounted for 31.7 per cent of the country’s total employed population,
up from 25.9 per cent recorded in 1996 and 31 per cent in 2005, the
officials said.
Among
Asia’s four little dragons, the number of knowledge workers as a
percentage of the employed population in 2005 in Taiwan was lower than
Singapore’s 37.3 per cent and Hong Kong’s 34.2 per cent but higher than
South Korea’s 20.9 per cent, they said.
A knowledge worker refers
to someone who works primarily with information or who develops and
uses knowledge in the workplace, such as lawyers, doctors, diplomats,
lawmakers, marketeers, software developers, managers and bankers.
