When Less is More

January 11th, 2007 by Administrator

Sometimes, maintaining too many people or tasks may detract instead of contribute.  This may be one such instance.

Government to create ’super websites’ | The Register

Whitehall is to shut down 551 websites to make access to information easier for citizens and businesses, a Cabinet Office minister has said.

Launching the delayed Transformational Government annual report 2006, Pat McFadden said over half of central government websites will face closure over the next year.
“We are dealing decisively with the proliferation of government
websites - getting rid of more than 500 - and we are ensuring that the
quality of our services will not be affected by these changes.”

How to Lose Weight

January 11th, 2007 by Administrator

I am not the best expert to write this — I have been, over 25 years trying successfully and unsuccessfully to lose weight - it would seem that if I have a bad indulgence, it is the enjoyment of food.

However, since new year I’ve lost 5 pounds, and I would like to share how I did it.  People who saw me and heard I’ve lost some immediately starts to ask what diet I am following.

At the end, I think it does not matter what diet I am following - most are OK if you just religiously follow it. So it is really a matter of execution rather than ideas.

This time, I really did not follow any particular diet, I just decided to execute better by increasing awareness.

What I found out is that I have a predisposition to nibble unconsciously. That means when I’m thinking or having a business lunch, I would just keep getting portions and portions of food as I converse or think.

So I decided the best way to increase awareness was just one — I religiously write down all I ate.  It did not matter what or how much I ate, I was just to write it down in the list.

I think by consciously following that, I was able to have more awareness, and thus prevent eating something unconsciously.  I think as long as the awareness is there, I will be more successful - that means I think as long as I keep listing down what I eat, I should be able to continue with this program more successfully.

What do you think?

Palm: to be or not to Be

January 11th, 2007 by Administrator

For the last few years, Palm has been one company that has been going back and forth - does it want to be on hardware only?  Is it planning to license its OS?  Will it use Windows Mobile?

Now it feels its future is in the software.

The Utility Belt: Palm grabs its OS back, plots Treo’s future

Palm (PALM) has struck a $44 million deal that puts it back in control of its device software, a step that was essential to the company remaining competitive with Symbian, the BlackBerry (RIMM), and Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows Mobile platform. Though Palm for now is mum about its plans, I expect that within the next six to nine months the company will release more information about the future direction of the Palm platform – essentially the rebirth of the Palm OS.

HD vs Blu-Ray

January 11th, 2007 by Administrator

A good situationer on the current battle between HD DVD vs Blu-Ray

The Utility Belt: HD DVD vs. Blu-ray: what it takes to win a format war

The battle between HD DVD and Blu-ray is far from over, but it’s becoming clear that HD DVD will win round one – this season the tepidly reviewed and impossible to find PlayStation 3 (SNE) is the only Blu-ray player that comes close to being reasonably priced (at $500), while discounted HD DVD players can be found during this holiday season for about $415 – and the Xbox 360 (MSFT) add-on is $199.

Apple’s new iPhone

January 11th, 2007 by Administrator

Apple introduced a new cell phone.  Its cool, its expensive, its Apple. This article examines many of the decisions Apple made and everybody comments the strengths and weaknesses on it.  A good business view case study.

The Utility Belt: With the high-priced iPhone, Apple may be picking too many fights at once

It’s brilliant, beautiful, groundbreaking. But there are a few serious hurdles Apple (AAPL) will have to clear if it wants to truly revolutionize the communications world with the iPhone it announced yesterday:
