Fighting Stress

March 5th, 2007 by Administrator

We are all enduring more stress as we get more connected.  There is an excellent article in Time magazine about 6 Lessons in Handling Stress.

Some Takeaways:

- Insurance claims for stress, depression and job burnout are now the US fastest-growing disability category.

- We tend to cope with stress by doing various things that increases our stress level even further or makes us more vulnerable to it: watching tv, skipping exercise, and eating non-healthy foods!

- The reason we always think stress comes from is high workloads or lack of control in the job.  According to a new study, and which I concur, it is rather the unfairness and a mistmatch of values between you and the people you deal with - your company and your friends/co-workers.  Thus, it is important that you work out the situations or environment that puts you in conflict with your values!

- Lastly, people with low self-esteem tend to be more vulnerable to stress.  Take time out to value yourself, and feel good about yourself!
