The Hurt in Traditional Media

August 6th, 2007 by Administrator

Traditional Magazines are starting to hurt - particularly those in the high tech.  But will most other industry magazines be far behind?  This is one of the issues about growing technology — it can repaint the landscape.

Tech Boom, Media Bust - Forbes.com

Silicon Valley is booming again. But if you work in tech media, there’s blood on the floor. Take Red Herring. It hung onto its offices after getting the eviction notice earlier this month. But gossip site Valleywag is breaking story after story not just on its beat–but about its woes. Meanwhile, bigger publications are hurting too: Time Warner’s (nyse: TWX - news - people ) Business 2.0 saw ad pages drop 21.8% through March from the same period a year ago; PC Magazine’s editor in chief walked out the door after ad pages fell 38.8% over the same period; and one-time online powerhouse CNET is reporting growing losses even as the companies it covers flourish.

Growing the Business

August 6th, 2007 by Administrator

Seth Godin reminds us that in growing the company, it is not only enough to find the right people — you have to find the right partners, and most important, the right CUSTOMERS.

Seth’s Blog: The promiscuity paradox

Marketers of all stripes are discovering that acquiring a reputation and permission to market to people isn’t as expandable as they might hope.

A PR firm, for example, might have some terrific clients. These clients give them credibility to talk to the media. Over time, the firm gains a reputation with bloggers and other media outlets. Emails get answered, press releases get read. The clients get ink, new clients show up.

Hiring toxic employees

August 6th, 2007 by Administrator

Author Seth Godin ( I just finished his book, the DIP and highly recommends it), makes a good case of people to avoid — people he terms toxic employees.

They not only don’t contribute, cost the company resources to manage, but they can also destroy corporate behavior, and demotivate people.

Seth’s Blog: Toxic employees

Toxic employees are the ones that have difficulty with their co-workers, or worse, far worse, with your customers.

Two New Features Pages

August 6th, 2007 by Administrator

If you like my blog, you may like to read the articles also that I find interesting.

I read a lot, and probably go through several newspapers including dozens of blogs and news sources everyday.  There are of course so much news because we all are looking for different things, but if you are both into entrepreneurship, management, and business technology, we may have some common ground.

I was finally able to aggregate my reading in Google Reader, and it has some nice featuers which allows me easily to tag and share those that I find interesting.  As a result, I am getting my selections, and posting it in my blog.

Check out:  ( you can also find this on the links list on the upper right corner of my blog)
- my selected articles on technology
- my selected articles on business

I will update this a couple of times a week, and I do hope you find it interesting, as well as a fast way to go through interesting articles fast!

Something Useful?

August 6th, 2007 by Administrator

Yes, that is the most important.  Before we become _too_ enamored with technology, let us remind ourselves that we should not use technology because we CAN.  We should use technology because it enables us to do more ( not waste time), and makes our lives easier.

Businesspundit: Please Build Me Something Useful: A Letter To Web 2.0 Developers

A public-opinion poll is no substitute for thought. Warren Buffett

I have a confession to make. I have tried out hundreds of Web 2.0 applications, and there is one and only one that I use almost every day. You see, the problem with Web 2.0 is that I’m not a social person. I never read reviews before I buy something on Amazon. I never read restaurant reviews, travel reviews, hotel reviews, or anything else written by the average person. Maybe they work for some people, but in my experience, they have zero correlation to what I like.

Food for the Goose, Poison for the Gander

August 6th, 2007 by Administrator

I actually forgot what was the exact quote.  But when I read this story of Anita, although she was trying to establish something else, it occured to me that sometimes we may unknowingly, and without malice, cause a lot of misery, or trouble to some people without knowing it.

Especially as I go higher into the organization, and is in a positin to establish policies or make decisions without having time to talk to all people concerned, it sometimes occured to me that a well intentioned joke or business ecision can affect other people without us knowing it.

Why Your Business Needs An Internet Policy - A True Story » Small Business Trends

A young woman comes to see the company HR Manager because she has received a message from a “Secret Admirer” on the company email system. Most of the message was innocuous, but it concluded by saying, ”I’ve been watching you.”
It turns out that the young woman’s sister had been stalked by “an
admirer” and murdered.   So, receiving a message by a secret admirer
who claimed to be watching her was taken as a major threat.  Could you
blame her for reacting strongly?
