Reading without Reflection
Administrator
I remember an age old adage which says that reading without reflecting is like eating without digesting. And that can be true. Sometimes, we just mix up the fact ( as always ) that quantity does not equal to quality.
I sometimes ( and maybe wrongly) make a whole lot of fuss that I do read ( ok, at least scan through) thousands of business and technical articles every month, and my library is full of books ( many read a couple of times, many still to be read).
However, it is important as you yearn to read more that you also think more.
We have too much food nowadays, and maybe we eat too much too as we want to try and savor everything. But you can only eat so much before it becomes gluttony, and you begin to fail to recognize the true flavors. Ditto with reading. Small portions of really great thought provokers or carefully selected food for thought may be an apt replacement, and it is good to think and to resist the temptation to go for more.
Read slow, digest, savor.
