The Business of Software
Administrator
I am currently going over the excellent book of Eric Sink, entitled the Business of Software. Both of us have the same two passions - entrepreneurship and technology. Here are some gems so far:
- the purpose of 1.0 is not to come up with the perfect product. It is to help pay for the development of 2.0,
- Overcoming fear of failure does not mean making a bet that could really mess up your life. This is advice that should be heed - you will make mistake in business, and the important thing is not to risk too much so that the mistake can become a failure that is too much to handle.
- when you start to develop a product or service, you have to make sure you understand the market you are going after. We always ask ourselves whether the market we are afer is BIG enough. Ask yourself another question — is the market SMALL enough. Unless you have adequate funding and resources, it is advisable for small startup companies to stay out of markets that are big enough to be interesting to big companies.
