Entrepreneurial traps

October 3rd, 2007 by Administrator

Although entrepreneurship is getting a much coveted push, and successful entrepreneurs get a lot of glamour, one of the things that continue to highlight studies is that many entrepreneurs are actually caught in a sort of a trap.

Data from the Small Business Administration indicates that only 1 out of 5 new ventures are still around after fiveyears, and even those survivors have to often put their personal life on ice just so that they can stay afloat. This is contrary to the popular notion that people choose entrepreneurship in order to enjoy flexibility –in most cases they actually end up working more time, and normally also cannot have much flexibility in which to choose when or where to work.

IT is quite hard for entrepreneurs to set parameters since many feel so vested in their ventures since its success or failure may be a direct reflection of who they are, and anything short of wild success can be perceived as a character flaw, or even a shortcoming of abilities. Thus many entrepreneurs end up not only badly overworked, but any strained their personal relationship as well. It is important before embarking to find the right balance.
