I have been a fan of the long tail…. But the comment is right on the dot.

The concept is an eye-opener, but you need to understand the business model correctly to leverage whether the market segment can be sold to with a good amount of efficiency.

Amazon can make money from the long tail, while authors of ‘minor’ books won’t. In the same way, Google makes money from the blogosphere’s long tail, but small blogs don’t.

    I am just wondering if people who are trying to make money in the long tail have actually read the book. It is clearly stated there that the money comes from the aggregation of niches in the long tail and not in a few niches.

    Well “making money” is very relative. For someone living in the US working full time on a blog which makes $1000 will probably be considered a waste of time but here it’s more than enough to make a decent living…
