No Luggage, No Hand Carrys in the Final Journey of Life

I am quite amused at the less and less things that you can carry aboard the aircraft.

You cannot carry anything that may be a cause of fire and may potentially cause harm or be used as a weapon.  You cannot carry a luggage more than x number of kilograms.  You cannot carry more than a few ccs of liquid, and if you do, it has to be put in a small transparent zip lock package.  You have to subject anything electronic, or metal to the scanning machine.

However, you are allowed to check in your luggage, and you are allowed also to have excess weight or size for your luggage provided that you are willing to pay extra for it.

But despite all these ‘hassles’ that they imposed upon you, I still see legions of people with so much luggage, all those luxuries that they have to bring around them that they now considered indispensables and necessities, even when travelling only for the day, or for a night or two.

Reflect how much of these are really important in your last journey of life.

During your funeral, you may be allowed the indulgence of putting some really important things inside your coffin ( what would that be?) .  But other than that coffin, there is no more ‘check in luggage’.  ( on second thought, maybe an enterprising person can come up with coffins with excess luggage racks…)

In fact, in the final journey of life, you are not allowed any hand carried at all — I think. I am not sure whether you are allowed to wear anything on your body as extras, but if so, that is very limited ( I am going to choose my cell phone to contain my address book and the pictures of my really good friends, my digital camera, and maybe my ipod ( What if heaven does not have my selection of music!).  Wait! How about my Sudoku puzzle book, or my business books, or my favorite fiction? my portable gameboy? my Evian bottled water?  my vitamins? how about my latte machine?  my compact, at least, my comb?  how about my credit card? my Rolex!? my calling cards - how am I supposed to introduce myself?   If I cannot bring some of that, how am I supposed to while my time, or even survive?

Ha!  Go Figure….

    Wilson,

Hi! Another very thought-provoking piece from you. Makes us pause and think about all these material things we amass here on earth. Well done!
