Yes, you can use my Toons

March 3rd, 2008 by Administrator

As long as you don’t alter any of it.

Just go to the toons you want, right click, copy image location, and use the image function to paste it to your blog.

If you want to put it into your newsletter, or send it through email to your colleagues, just make sure you acknowledge that it comes from www.ngkhai.net/bizdrivenlife blog.

Global Warming Numbers

March 3rd, 2008 by Administrator

This is not a business post, but I realize that it has become everybody’s business to be green. We now are more increasingly aware of becoming green and saving the environment, and especially, the limiting ot he emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. What’s the score?

According tot he UN Intergovernmental Panel on Coimate Change, the temperature of the earth rose 0.74 degrees Celsius over the past 100 years. Not much is it? But the result has been that half of the glaciers on Earth has melted as a result, and the sea level has risen 3.1 millimeters.

Depending on how we act, that could rise another 1.1 to 6.4 degrees Celsius in this century.

What is the repercussion? If temperature rise 3 to 4 degrees, 200 million people will become permanently displaced and upwards 15% of species may become extinct. last swatchs of Asia as well as coastal cities like Tokyo, New York and London may be at risk of major flooding.

That’s a good incentive to care, isn’t it?

Changing Directions and Corporate culture

March 3rd, 2008 by Administrator

Yahoo and Dell were darlings of the market. They embodied the internet generation, and were among the most visible companies that highlighted the ‘new’ way of doing business. Both have stumbled the last 2 years. Their founders are back, Jerry Yang of Yahoo and Michael Dell of Dell.

For the last 1 year, both have attempted to reinject the magic, and save the company. So far, both of them seems to have difficulty. Believe me, as a CEO, it is better and easier to build a company, and infuse your culture as it is growing. When a different culture takes over, it is hard to change directions. Habits take root, and bad practices will start to abound. People resist.

It can be done, but as I found out, it is not easy. The first thing I notice is that you have to let go a lot of people — when the culture is not what it is, it is easier to get people who are willing to change, than to try to change people who have been there a few years, and is already ‘jaded’.
