Does Reading More Make you Smarter?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been an avid reader.

I’ve probably read thousands of books, including probably hundreds of emails, blogs, articles, news everyday.

Does it make you smarter? 

If you can’t digest it, and incorporate it into a framework of thought, then no.

Books are a great source of entertainment.  Reading lots of books also makes you a better speaker, and a better writer.  But smarter?

Only if you read the right books, and only if it makes you think.  It is how you think about what you read that makes you smart, not the reading per se.
