I’ve always been averse to using widgets in the design of my homepage and my personal blog over the years. Occasionally, I’ll find one that is useful enough to keep around a while. I had the Lijit search utility implemented when I still had close to ten years worth of blog posts to index (before my blog reset towards the beginning of the year). At the request of its SharePoint and Office product development teams, Microsoft 's Office Labs operation has created and is testing a prototype of an internal social network that can provide employees with feeds and updates about their colleagues.

According to the Inquisitr, Plurk is rollin’ up its sleeves and getting ready to release an API tomorrow. The microblogging platform which has found much love from frustrated Twitter users who need an escape from constant errors, is making the effort to compete seriously by allowing third party application development.
Plurk offers a very similar service to Twitter, but throws in a curve ball with its horizontal timeline of updates, extended freedom of conversation, and “karma” points for avid…

There are only two kinds of storage devices - those that have failed, and those that are about to fail. That's the view most datacenters have about the traditionally mechanical devices pejoratively referred to as "spinning rust." All disk drives fail, cheap drives fail faster.
If the average time to fail is five years, you and your laptop can make do with the occasional backup. But when an average enterprise has 100, or 1,000, or increasingly 10,000 or 100,000 individual…

Need to update your datacenter when your midmarket IT organization's budget is squeezed tight? Kane County, the fourth-largest county in Illinois and one of the fastest-growing counties in the United States, suffered those two problems while still stuck with a Y2K hangover that left it littered with some 300 separate servers supporting every department and every application.
When CTO David Siles took the job in 2003, he got a mandate: Ditch the existing mainframe environment and drag the…
