This is a great post about managing events, and the downsides when the tries to make it difficult for organizers and exhibitors by not only being inflexible, but by using the event to ‘milk’ exhibitors for what its worth…

Always, looking at the short term will harm the long term business by not focusing on customer needs and satisfaction.

Tradeshow Startup » 5 Reasons Why I’m Thinking About Quitting The Tradeshow Business

But this post is about the bad parts. The parts that are beginning to make me wonder where I’m headed and if it’s the right business in which to stake my company’s future, my future, and most important to me - my family’s future.

There’s always something you could have done better, or foresee or avoid.

Those are the lessons when you try something new - the most important ting is you evaluate, and see what you learned, so that next time, you will be wiser and make less mistakes….

Jeff Henshaw’s Hog Blog » The year of high- and low-lights at an Internet startup

It has been an amazing year of learning through both successes and failures. Startup life embodies many of the things that I expected, like new levels of autonomy and the responsibility that goes along with it. Decisions made every day impact the viability of the business in ways I hadn’t experienced at larger companies. The demands on me from a startup were very different, including requiring more travel than I’ve ever had to do for business before.

Be careful about credit card debt!

We made it through the bursting of the Internet bubble and now the bursting of the real estate bubble. Next we may be approaching the end of the most worrisome bubble of all: the standard-of-living bubble.

Great article on the value of saving!

John and Gina Rodrigues have always been good with numbers. John is a software engineer who manages a team at Microsoft, and Gina spent years processing mortgages at Wells Fargo and Countrywide Home Loans. But the numbers they are especially good at are the kind with dollar signs in front of them.

We still don’t log this, but desk jobs ( because of inactivity and many people becoming obese) could well become a dangerous job in the future.

Fishing, flying and logging were the three most dangerous jobs in America in 2007. These occupations reported higher death rates than any others, according to according to a report out today from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Read this…. The right joke delivered correctly can make you unpopular….

The wrong joke can be an embarassment….

Siasat

Research by a US linguist at Washington State University found that people who tell bad jokes often endure an astonishing outpouring of hostility from the
listeners.

There are several reasons for the strong responses.

First, such canned humour often disrupts the natural flow of
conversation. And jokes that fail to deliver humour are a violation of
a social contract, so punishing the teller can discourage similar
behaviour in the future.

Finally, a stupid joke insults the listener by suggesting that he or she might actually find it funny, Bell said.

This can be commendable…

After all, who says that God’s servants and missionaries should ignore beauty?

I’d always think that life should be lived not doing evil, but appreciating all the great and beautiful things around us.

However, as in all things, it is important that it not be misconstrued….

www.kansascity.com| Italian priest organizes beauty contest for nuns

An Italian priest and theologian said Sunday he is organizing an online beauty pageant for nuns to give them more visibility within the Catholic Church and to fight the stereotype that they are all old and dour.

The “Miss Sister 2008″ contest will start in September on a blog run by the Rev. Antonio Rungi and will give nuns from around the world a chance to showcase their work and their image.
