A Bad Example of doing the Wrong Thing

There are anecdotes and stories that teach you the right stuff… and there are those that don’t.

I normally receive a lot of mass mails. Many are entertaining, and many are educational. Many have a point, but may have the tendency to point you to the wrong direction. This is one.

The police is right — you have to prioritize…. And if the robber is not inside the house, and is just tooling around the shed which will surely not be a risk to life or even valuable items, then it has to be relegated, and he could be right that there are no people to dispatch…

But when there is homicide and murder, then you should prioritize it with alarms blaring.

You should give it to people that they need to prioritize, and doing this to get attention is not only WRONG - it might deprive some people that need police attention more…

LET US prioritize, and let us help other people prioritize. It insures the most important work gets done.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE .

George
Phillips of Meridian , Mississippi , was going up to bed, when his
wife told him that he’d left the light on in the garden shed, which she
could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go
turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing
things.

He phoned the police, who asked ‘Is someone in your house?

He said ‘No.’

Then they said ‘All patrols were busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available.’

George said, ‘Okay.’ He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again.

‘Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people
stealing things from my shed. Well, you don’t have to worry about them
now because I just shot them.’ and he hung up.

Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter,
two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at
the Phillips’ residence, and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the
Policemen said to George, ‘I thought you said that you’d shot them!’

George said, ‘I thought you said there was nobody available!’

This is a great tip:

From a person who listens to presentations and also makes presentations, it is beneficial actually for both sides to know what to expect, and go to the ‘meat’.

Sellers might think they benefit by making obfuscating things, but it has to be that both sides win if both sides hit their objectives, not just the reseller.

Making Software Demos Productive

It can be a huge time-waster to sit through software demonstrations. But there are ways to take control and make these sessions matter
