I don’t normally post gadget reviews, but this one is something I think is cool. For the last 2 weeks, I have been carrying around a thumbdrive that fits into my wallet. It was given to me by our principals in IBM as a new form factor for thumbdrives. Thumbdrives are getting smaller, but it is not really great to put around your neck, and it creates a bulge in the pocket. This thumb drive packs 512 megabytes into a card slightly thicker than your VisaCard, and you can put into your wallet.
It is a great product, and I hope it can be introduced to the market soon.

ThinkSecret is reporting that Cingular just inked a deal with Apple to exclusively carry Apple’s new iPhone.
…Apple’s phone will feature a candy-bar design with a 2.2-inch display and 3 megapixel camera. Robust iTunes and iSync support will also be delivered with the phone….
Insiders say Apple is internally estimating that shipments of the iPhone will top a staggering 25 million in 2007 alone. Motorola’s RAZR, by contrast, has sold more than 50 million units since its launch in late 2004. Apple is betting a phone with Apple’s iconic design, elegant interface, and iPod-matching functionality will be a strong draw for users who currently carry both devices on them.

A district court judge in Delaware has dismissed part of Advanced Micro Devices’ lawsuit against Intel.
The dismissed claims relate to alleged business practices of Intel that AMD claims affected sales of its own microprocessors.
Jurisdiction Argued
Intel petitioned the court to have the claims dismissed because, it said, while AMD is headquartered in the U.S. it manufactures its processors in Germany and assembles them in Malaysia, Singapore, and China. AMD is already seeking damages through the Japanese courts, European Commission, and Korea Fair Trade Commission for the same business practices that are alleged in the U.S. lawsuit. Because the alleged harm was suffered outside the U.S. and because AMD is seeking redress overseas, Intel argued that the allegations fall outside the jurisdiction of the U.S. courts, according to a memorandum opinion from the court.

The first benchmarks of Intel’s quad-core Kentsfield processor are here, and the chip is showing some impressive speed in multithreaded applications. As with the Core 2 Duo launch, Intel supervised testing at its preview events this week, so we’ll have to reserve our final take on performance until we can get a Kentsfield sample in our lab for testing with PC World’s usual slate of benchmarks.
Intel’s test setup pitted a 2.66-GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (Kentsfield) chip against a 2.93-GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800 chip–the company’s previous high-end desktop processor. Both systems used a preproduction D975XBX2 motherboard, 2GB of Corsair memory running at DDR2 800 speeds, a 320GB Seagate hard drive, and an eVGA GeForce 7950 GX2 graphics board.

update Voodoo PC has agreed to be acquired by Hewlett-Packard, Voodoo founder and Chief Technology Officer Rahul Sood announced on his blog Thursday.
Details of the transaction were not released. Rahul Sood and his brother Ravi, currently the CEO of Voodoo, will take positions within a new game business unit in HP’s Personal Systems Group reporting to Phil McKinney, that group’s chief technology officer, according to the posting on Rahul Sood’s blog.
Voodoo makes expensive high-end PCs for gamers and PC enthusiasts, often with flashy designs and cases. This is a relatively small portion of the PC market, but it yields higher margins than the mainstream market. Customers of companies like Voodoo, Alienware and Falcon Northwest are thought to wield influence over less tech-savvy friends and colleagues.

Multimedia author or gamer
Home user
Home users are increasingly turning to notebooks as their primary PCs; they like that laptops can offer similar performance and features to those of a desktop PC and can be easily moved from room to room. Though of course almost any notebook will do for typical home use, there are two types of notebooks most suitable for home users: midsize notebooks, which tend to be budget-friendly, and desktop replacements, which are usually packed with features.
