How was last quarter’s sales:

According to Nicolas Carr:

Apple went from $4.4 billion to $5.3 billion for 21% growth.
Microsoft went from $10.9 billion to $14.4 billion for 32% growth.
Google went from $1.5 billion to $2.5 billion for 66% growth.

But still, while Google grew faster, Microsoft’s sales growth of the quarter ($3.5 billion) is still greater than Google’s total sales ( $2.5 billion) by a billion.

Seoul, South Korea (AHN) - Intel Corporation on Tuesday picked a digital home lifestyle-inspired design by Korean firm TriGem Computer as the winner of its $1 million-Intel Core Processor Challenge.

TriGem’s Home Theater Lluon “Black Crystal” design, which combined a mix of style, acoustics, and functionality took the grand prize in the design contest which attracted participants from all over the world.

Mesiro from Norway finished first runner-up for its “Asono Merium” system.

The design contest which culminated here in Intel’s annual Intel Developer Forum, its biggest so far held in China, was intended to spur innovation in new, stylish, and high-performing PC designs and away from the traditional big, beige computer boxes of old.

Microsoft 3Q profit jumps 65 percent - Yahoo! News

Microsoft Corp.’s fiscal third-quarter profit jumped 65 percent, buoyed by sales of its new versions of Windows and Office and by upgrade coupons for the operating system issued over the holidays.

Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell said the “excellent
quarter” was due to better-than-expected sales of Vista and Office.

Liddell said Vista beat internal forecasts by $300 million to $400
million, and Office 2007 sales were $200 million better than expected.

Microsoft software will sell for just $3 (£1.50) in some parts of the world in an attempt to double the number of global PC users.

The firm wants to bring computing to a further one billion people by 2015.

Governments in developing countries can purchase the cut-price software, if they provide free PCs for schools.

Other companies and organisations are also trying to boost computer literacy in developing countries, notably the One Laptop per Child project.

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) continues its crackdown on software pirates, its latest raid involving a Korean manufacturer in the country.

The NBI’s Intellectual Property Rights division conducted the raid on Headline I&C Philippines, suspected of using pirated copies of software by Autodesk, Adobe and Microsoft.
