The Freeman -9m worth of software seized in raid

An estimated P9 million worth of counterfeit computer softwares were seized by the intellectual property rights division of the National Bureau of Investigation in Manila.

NBI operatives from Manila and Cebu raided a furniture factory and a call center in Mandaue City the other day for alleged infringements of the intellectual property rights law.

“According to the recent Face Recognition Grand Challenge, The match up of face-recognition algorithms showed that machine recognition of human individuals has improved tenfold since 2002 and a hundredfold since 1995. ‘Among other advantages, 3-D facial recognition identifies individuals by exploiting distinctive features of a human face’s surface–for instance, the curves of the eye sockets, nose, and chin, which are where tissue and bone are most apparent and which don’t change over time.

In Q1 2007, worldwide PDA shipments grew 39.7% compared with Q1 2006 to 5.1 mln units. Eastern Europe and Latin America were the fastest-growing regions. More than 62% of all PDAs shipped in Q1 2007 were based on Windows Mobile, and 71% had integrated cellular connectivity, Gartner says.

Ng Khai Educ Summit 2007 and eBox Promo Launching

Windows Server Growing Faster than Linux

Matt Eastwood at IDC reports that Windows server revenue grew faster than Linux server revenue in Q107, a placement Microsoft had never achieved before in the almost 10 years IDC has been fielding the server-sales tracking survey.

That indicates to me that Linux as a server platform is leveling off much sooner than proponents anticipated.

Intel sStripping out Lead from its PRocessors

Intel vows to strip lead from processors - Yahoo! News

Intel has already removed about 95 percent of the toxic metal since 2004 and will eliminate the remainder — 0.02 grams — beginning with a new line of chips that go into production later this year. Tin/lead solder used to connect the processor to the motherboard will be replaced with an alloy comprised instead of tin, silver and copper.

More spam

Study: More spam but fewer complaints - Yahoo! News

Thirty-seven percent of U.S. e-mail users say they are getting more junk in their personal e-mail accounts, and 29 percent see an increase in their work accounts. About half say they have not noticed a change, the Pew Internet and American Life Project said in its study, released Wednesday.
