The group is trying to get more people using Windows Mobile in their personal lives, not just work.More…

What Can Open Source Learn from Microsoft?

So, what exactly can the open-source community learn from Microsoft and the proprietary world?

Quite a lot it would appear, if the discussion of the topic at a session here at the annual Open Source Business Conference March 25 is anything to go by.

Intel Classmate popular in test schools

KUALA LUMPUR: A pilot project involving 10 public schools in the peninsula to test the benefits of providing students with low-cost portable computers scored high marks among the teachers and children. An evaluation report said 85% of the teachers in the test schools found the programme allowed them to better create an innovative and collaborative e-learning environment in the classroom. It said the teachers also reported that the laptop computers – called the Classmate PC and provided by chipmaker Intel Corp – helped the children open up during question-and-answer lessons, as well as encouraged closer student-teacher relationships.

Intel Classmate PC vs the Asus EeePC - A Comparison

There is now this popularity on NetBooks or subnotebooks, or for some mobile internet devices,  the most popular of which are the Asus Eeepc, and lately, Intel has been trying to make waves with their Intel Classmate PC.  I tried to compare both through some hands on.  I have spent a few weeks wth the Asus Eeepc, and spent the Lenten Holidays going over the Classmate PC.

In fact, I typed most of these report in the INtel Classmate PC.

The Asus EeePC comes with 512 mb memory, and 4 gig flash disk.  It runs Xandro Linux.  The Intel Classmate PC comes with 512 mb memory, and a 30 gigabyte hard disk  with Windows XP Starter Edition ( This is a special low cost Win XP sold in developing countries. It will run only on low end processors, and cannot open more than 3 windows at a time).   Both has a 7 inch monitor screen and both runs Intel Celeron 900 mhz processors.

HP develops ‘smart’ software for data centers

Hewlett-Packard (HP) demonstrated to Asia-Pacific media gathered here technology that could analyze and optimize physical and virtual resources found in a data center. Called HP Insight Dynamics-VSE or “logical servers” technology, this software virtualizes physical servers and removes third-party data analysis so that capacity planning and provisioning becomes faster and more efficient. The software reads and controls physical and virtual resources the same way, allowing users to save money and power. These logical servers are detachable and could then be moved across the infrastructure and serve as physical blade servers.Inquirer.net

Top Handheld Devices

There were over 3 million handheld devices sold in 2007, which is a 44% decline from 2006.  I guess independent PDAs are slowly dying and PDA is slowly being integrated to the mobile phones.  The two leaders of the pack are still Palm and HP.
