Texting while Driving

Its stupid! Its dangerous! people should not be doing it, andthey shold be warned….. so says my head.

But that said, yes, I must admit, I still do it…..

Slashdot | Text-Messaging Behind the Wheel

TIME interviews 21-year-old Taylor Leming, creator of the 600-member Facebook group I Text Message People While Driving and I Haven’t Crashed Yet!
While Alaska and Louisiana just became the latest states to pass laws
banning text-messaging behind the wheel, Virginia resident Leming is
still happily texting away while driving despite some near-accidents.
‘Sometimes it just seems easier to text ‘Be there in 5′ instead of
calling,’ explains Taylor.”

1 Billion PCs now, 2 billion in 2014

Gartner counts over 1 billion PCs served | Green Tech - CNET News.com

The number of personal computers in use around the world has exceeded 1 billion and will double by 2014, with most growth coming from developing markets, according to Gartner research released Monday.

A 12 percent annual increase would amount to more than 2 billion PCs in use by 2014, according to a report that counted installed machines rather than laptops and desktops sold.

Emerging markets will account for 70 percent of the next billion PCs to come online, Gartner analysts suggested. They named dropping prices and improved Internet access as factors driving that trend.

Spotlight: Intel’s Wolfdale Dual Core:A New “Smart Buy”

Intel’s 65nm chips are still going strong especially here in the Philippines, with the Q6600 starting to turn into a mainstream option for some shoppers wanting a bit more zing for their buck. If you’re looking into buying a new computer based around an Intel chip, I’d advise you to pause and join us as we take a look at a sample of the newest 45nm Intel product: the “Wolfdale” E8500.

The E8000 series is Intel’s “mainstream” CPU based on the 45nm process. It is the more affordable counterpart of Intel’s Q9650 Extreme that was meant for the enthusiast pocket. Just for clarification, the code name “Wolfdale” is specifically for the dual-core, desktop implementation of the 45nm process; “Penryn” on the other hand refers to the complete line of 45nm process chips that will be superseding the “Conroe” 65nm based CPUs. For now, we will explore the technical side of the chip, as compared to the previous Intel generation of popular mainstream processors. Read More.

New Lenovo Thinkpad - Light, gracious and economic

The new IBM descendent Lenovo was able to find itself a place in the hard fought-over laptop market and still represents exclusivity and quality. The X200 takes its place as the Thinkpad X300’s baby brother.

Lenovo have chosen Core 2 Duo CPUs for these computers with clock rates of up to 2.4GHz. IBM unveils ‘Roadrunner’, world’s fastest supercomputer

IBM has built the world’s fastest supercomputer, a machine that can operate at one petaflop, which is 1,000 trillion floating point operations per second.

This is twice as fast as IBM Blue Gene, the world’s previous fastest computer.

Called “Roadrunner”, the new supercomputer has been built for the US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration.

It will mainly be used for US nuclear weapons simulations, but it will also be used for research in areas such as energy, astronomy, human genome science and climate change.

The computer runs on Red Hat Linux and uses a mixture of processors. Computer Weekly.
