Atom in a Netbook

I’m quiet fascinated how intel atom processor works in a netbook.  Atom processor though is already  available here in the Philippines. Here’s the article i wanted to share why atom processor will make hit in the market.

"Intel Atom-based netbooks and nettops are now commercially available in the Philippines from both local and multinational industry players, featuring enhanced capabilities and features such as increased hard-disk capacities. Netbooks are currently available from Acer, Asus, Dell, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MSI and Neo; while nettops are available from Intel’s channel partners and Asus. There are now more than 60 netbook and nettop designs available worldwide.

“Netbooks and nettops have received a strong positive reaction in the Philippines over the past couple of months,” said Navin Shenoy, general manager, Intel Asia Pacific. “With more OEM and channel partners introducing Intel Atom-based netbook and nettop solutions in the Philippines, more Filipinos will benefit from access to the internet. Intel is committed to bringing the benefits of the Internet to people in emerging markets worldwide,” Shenoy concluded.

Netbooks are compact mobile devices that children, first-time Internet users and people who desire an extra PC can use for basic computing applications, listening to music, e-mailing and surfing the Internet. They can also be used for playing basic online games, social networking and making voice over IP phone calls.

“The Intel Atom processor was specifically designed for Internet-centric applications,” said Ricky Banaag, Country Manager, Intel Technology Philippines. “We believe that Intel Atom-based devices will help make a greater number of Filipinos PC- and Internet-savvy.” Intel is delivering a variety of high-performance, low-power processors and other advanced computer technologies to help the industry address this opportunity with devices at all price points.
