Linksys announced the new Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G2 – the successor of CiscoWRT54G router. The new router features the same sleek industrial design as sported by the recent Ultra RangePlus family of Wireless-N routers (WRT160N and WRT310N).

Today, Linksys has introduced its next-gen wireless-G router, WRT54G2, for Indian consumers and small business environments. This is a modification over Cisco’s WRT series of routers. In an exclusive interview with ChannelTimes, Sanjeev Gupta, channel director (APAC), of the company explains Pallabika Ganguly about the product and its potential in the Indian market. The idea of working from home is gaining momentum and it is more convenient through wireless network. Securent’s scalable, distributed policy platform allows enterprises to administer, enforce, and audit access to data, communications, and applications in heterogeneous IT application environments. Securent is privately held and based in Mountain View, Calif.
Securent’s software will enable Cisco customers to protect and secure valuable application data regardless of vendor, platform, or operating system while still allowing ubiquitous access to the content workers and their collaborative communities need to be productive. By delivering policy from the network, Cisco will simplify entitlement decisions for all communications, collaboration and other third party applications.

Cisco tweaked its unified communications lineup for the SMB market today by releasing four new switches, two new IP PBXs, and some related upgrades to its wireless APs. The product line that received the boost is the Cisco Smart Business Communications System, which provides voice, data, video, security and wireless capabilities and integrates them into existing desktop applications such as calendar, e-mail, and customer relationship management programs. These are turnkey systems pulled from hardware, integrated unified communications applications and system-management tools.

Cisco’s Web 2.0 team said it is developing Eos, which it claims would give communities a personalized “social experience around entertainment.” In a Cisco.com blog, Scott Brown describes Eos as a “software platform that serves as an entertainment operating system enabling consumers to have an interactive, personalized, community-based entertainment experience, WHILE simplifying the administrative experience for content owners in engaging audiences, and distributing and monetizing their content.” Details are even fuzzier than the explanation above, but the blog adds that “having both the distribution and connection (to both the set-top box and home network) becomes strategic in providing that next-generation experience.” Yup, we know what Cisco’s offerings are in those fields.
