Video: Laptop Hunters $1000 – Lauren Gets an HP Pavilion
Microsoft recently released an ad on buying a PC. An ad is introducing Lauren. She is looking to purchase a laptop with nice performance “speed”, comfortable keyboard, a 17″ screen for under $1,000. The camera is chasing her travels around town and, of course, greets her outside of an Apple store. As Lauren exits the building in dismay that the only Mac within her budget has a tiny 13″ screen, she says, “I’m just not cool enough to be a Mac person”. The Windows world is, of course, very welcoming and Lauren winds up finding an HP laptop at a nearby Best Buy that suits her needs. She keeps the laptop and gets to keep the change.
In this challenging times of our economy, a computer buyer is searching for quality performance at reasonable prices. Therefore Microsoft offers a better fit for a customer’s needs, for their lifestyle and for their budget versus the competition that’s out there today.

According to Digitimes, Lenovo is preparing a 12-inch netbook around an Intel Atom N280 processor and GN40 chipset.
Apparently called the IdeaPad S20, the device will cost about $580 and its 12-inch screen will be bigger than Intel likes. Chipzilla will have to like it or lump it… or not flog Lenovo any more Atoms.
Digitimes says the device is reportedly on the cards but fails to state where it was reported. It also quotes sources it won’t identify, so you never know. Read more >>

I’m quiet fascinated how intel atom processor works in a netbook. Atom processor though is already available here in the Philippines. Here’s the article i wanted to share why atom processor will make hit in the market.
"Intel Atom-based netbooks and nettops are now commercially available in the Philippines from both local and multinational industry players, featuring enhanced capabilities and features such as increased hard-disk capacities. Netbooks are currently available from Acer, Asus, Dell, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MSI and Neo; while nettops are available from Intel’s channel partners and Asus. There are now more than 60 netbook and nettop designs available worldwide.
“Netbooks and nettops have received a strong positive reaction in the Philippines over the past couple of months,” said Navin Shenoy, general manager, Intel Asia Pacific. “With more OEM and channel partners introducing Intel Atom-based netbook and nettop solutions in the Philippines, more Filipinos will benefit from access to the internet. Intel is committed to bringing the benefits of the Internet to people in emerging markets worldwide,” Shenoy concluded.
Netbooks are compact mobile devices that children, first-time Internet users and people who desire an extra PC can use for basic computing applications, listening to music, e-mailing and surfing the Internet. They can also be used for playing basic online games, social networking and making voice over IP phone calls.
“The Intel Atom processor was specifically designed for Internet-centric applications,” said Ricky Banaag, Country Manager, Intel Technology Philippines. “We believe that Intel Atom-based devices will help make a greater number of Filipinos PC- and Internet-savvy.” Intel is delivering a variety of high-performance, low-power processors and other advanced computer technologies to help the industry address this opportunity with devices at all price points.

Do you watch Numb3rs? For the last two days, i was able to have a time to watch the TV show season series where the two main characters are a FBI agent (Don Eppes) and his younger brother (Charlie), a very clever mathematician. The show is based on the idea that crimes can be solved with numbers. In each episode, Charlie uses different mathematic techniques to find information regarding some crime scene. One of which is how they solved the crime in phishing.
"Phishing is an electronic way for scam artists to steal your identity and your money. If you’ve got a computer and/or an e-mail account, you’re a potential target. Please be aware of at least two attempts to get at your information. Some phishing e-mails threaten a dire consequence if you don’t respond. The messages direct you to a Web site that looks just like a legitimate organization’s site. But it isn’t. It’s a bogus site whose sole purpose is to trick you into divulging your personal information so the operators can steal your identity and run up bills or commit crimes in your name.”

Is Microsoft negotiating to buy Yahoo? How big a competitive threat is Google? What is the biggest threat to IT at this point? These were all questions that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Cisco CEO John Chambers fielded in a lengthy debate they had in New York on August 20 about working more closely together on interoperability. When asked by moderator Charlie Rose why Microsoft had not bought Yahoo, Ballmer quickly corrected him by saying "Why don’t we buy Yahoo," before going on to say that Yahoo was an independent company with its own vision.Platform Dive.
