The new IBM descendent Lenovo was able to find itself a place in the hard fought-over laptop market and still represents exclusivity and quality. The X200 takes its place as the Thinkpad X300’s baby brother.

Instead of a 13.3inch display, the X200 is even more compact, with a 12inch display and is available in SL, T, and R versions. Lenovo have chosen Core 2 Duo CPUs for these computers with clock rates of up to 2.4GHz. After giving the new IdeaPad U110 its 15 minutes of fame in front of the camera, we got down to business. The 11.1-inch ultraportable is built like a tank — a really, really lightweight tank. The uniquely-designed lid and (overly) glossy motif is a welcome change for Lenovo, but after a good bit of use, it’s easy to see this one won’t appeal to the masses. Engadget
 

 

 

DESIGN 

• All in all, it’s fairly sexy. Definitely sexy for a Lenovo.

• Too much gloss. It’s overkill in its finest form, though some may enjoy it.

• It’s a fingerprint magnet (shocking, we know) — practically every square centimeter of this thing’s insides grabs prints: the keys, the screen, even the palm rests.

• Extraordinarily sturdy. We really can’t emphasize enough how solidly this thing is built.

• Appreciated accents — the "floral swirl" motif flows from the top lid to the underside, all the way to the smattering of touch controls that sit sneakily above the row of Function keys.

•Very respectable port selection for its size.

• Sleek from one corner to the other, thoughtful bottom bumpers ensure a firm grip on your lap / table.

Asus took advantage of the CeBIT tradeshow in Germany today to announce a version of its low-cost micro laptop with a wider screen.

Like the current models, the Eee PC 900 series will have a clamshell design and run a version of the Linux operating system. In addition, Asus says it will be ready to have Microsoft Windows installed on them if the user wants to. Read more..

Lenovo Group Ltd., the world’s number three PC maker, said it would start selling laptop computers preloaded with Linux software from Novell Inc. instead of Microsoft Corp.’s Windows operating system.

The laptops are slated to go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year and will be sold to Lenovo’s business customers as well as to consumers.
