Intel is working on the next version of its low-cost laptop, which could be ready in the next month or so, according to a report in PC World. There are no pictures, and very few concrete details on what changes are in store for the device, which is intended for school children. Intel would only say it will have a “new look and feel,” and will get both hardware and software upgrades.

We may already have a clue as to what tweaks the software might be getting. Last month, Sugar Labs, a spin-off of rival low-cost laptop maker One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), said it would develop a version of its Sugar interface for the Classmate PC. Read the rest of this entry

Chip maker Intel Corp. could sell more than 5 million of its new low-cost Atom microprocessor chips in the final quarter of 2008, a Wachovia Capital Markets analyst has said.

Analyst David Wong said the Atom chip was an exciting addition and could sell for $25 or more. Read more.

Intel will officially launch its 4-series chipsets at
Computex 2008, while motherboard makers will start shipping products in
the third week of June, according to sources at motherboard makers.Initial
4-series chipset shipments will consist of the P45 and P43, for which
the previously reported PCI Express compatibility bug has been fixed
already. However, the G45 and G43 IGP versions will be delayed for
another 2-3 weeks while Intel works to correct issues with VC1 hardware
