Cities opening more video surveillance eyes

Despite complaints by privacy advocates, the number of surveillance cameras is growing and proving increasingly valuable to police for catching criminals as well as protecting against terrorists.

The potential was demonstrated last week when British police used videotape from some of the London subway’s 6,000 cameras to identify four suicide bombers who killed at least 55 people.

The London cameras were set up initially to combat the Irish Republican Army. Likewise, the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks led New York City and Washington to increase video surveillance. More…

Dispelling the Top 10 Myths of IP Surveillance

NK Digital Surveillance System

Many security professionals believe that IP-based surveillance will not be able to meet the requirements of enterprise installations. The main reason given is usually the management and bandwidth required by the large number of network cameras. At an enterprise install, this could be anywhere from 50 cameras to several thousand cameras. With so many cameras, security professionals often begin to wonder how they will scale and administrate such a large cameras system. Concerns such as degrading network quality with too much video traffic or managing firmware upgrades on each cameras often take center stage and prevent enterprise-level installations from moving forward.More…

Keep an Eye on your Inventory

Shrinkage on inventory (inventory loss) is the retailer’s financial loss. This factor can be caused by a combination of employee theft, shoplifting, vendor fraud and administrative errors.

A lot of efforts were conducted which aims to have loss prevention and countermeasures. One which is increased customer service; there is a need to greet each customer who enters the retail store. Shoplifters always don’t want to be noticed and identified.

Merchandize is the lifeblood of all retail stores. A lot of investments are allotted to make a particular product sale, not mention the cost of advertising and promotional activities.

The most obvious impact on an inventory loss is the loss of cash investment on the merchandize, the freight and handling charges on top of the promotional activities of the company.

The full impact of the inventory loss maybe cited in the following example; supposing an item is lost or stolen; the cost of that item can be recovered provided that the retailer can do a sale of 20 times of that same product or more depending on the profit margin inputted on that product.

In addition, business opportunity loss on the item that is lost can sum up to further reduce the profitability of the business.

With these factors, it is imperative that retailers will invest on technology and programs to protect and preserve the merchandize; to minimize losses of all types; devoted to identifying, deterring or stopping inventory losses.

Most retailers invest on convex mirrors for them to view wide areas of the stores; some invested on electronic gadgets and proximity readers to guard the merchandize from stealing.

With these devices shoplifters will use the mirrors to check if somebody is watching them before they do commit the crime.

A safer solution is to provide surveillance cameras, not only it monitors and records incidence of theft and robbery; it also monitors dishonest employees.

With the existing technology especially in the field of information technology , surveillance systems are incorporated in the computer system called Digital Surveillance Systems. So, monitoring can be done remotely over the computer networks (LAN, Dial-up and DSL Internet) and recording can be done using the Hard Drive (the larger the Hard Drive the longer the days of recording).

In this manner, head offices can monitor store activities remotely and centrally. Store managers can have a bird’s eye view on the entire operations anytime, anywhere and have the facility to view the history to review and investigate incidents in a click of a mouse.

Is your company safe and secure?

Building Security

There are many challenges each company is facing today? One of the challenges is how make it safe and secure; there is a great need to protect its employees, assets as well as the company itself.

Millions of money is lost due to fraud, theft and robbery, thus plunging the company to great losses.

With the advent of new technologies, especially in the field of ICT, new products are available to answer the security needs of each company.

We opt to protect our investments as employers or business owners, that is why we properly setup security policies and procedures.

Implementing security systems such as roving security guards, burglar alarms, access controls and many others, have the limitation that we are dependent on the eyes of the security personnel and sometimes things are plainly over looked.

To compliment, Digital Surveillance System can record videos on people who are entering and leaving the company premises, an easier way to document those activities and has the ability to record recognizable images captured in daylight or even in total darkness.

It will enable security personnel to pinpoint who accessed what where and how, thereby increasing security and safety.

Significant advances of the technology allow users to access those video footages in a single site, multiple sites remotely or locally.

There is a great realization that there is no need to be physically present to monitor activities of the company. Managers can monitor the production line more efficiently, reviewing who violates the health and safety practices reducing accidents.

Connectivity are almost available anywhere, Internet, Wireless Access, Local Area Networks, Modems, so video can be accessed digitally (Web Based) using these mediums provided that you have the right usernames and passwords.

So, the greater the number of cameras installed the lesser the manpower to monitor the premises. This technology largely replaced the human eyes to monitor and record the events.

Archiving in the Digital Video Surveillance has eliminated the bulky, degenerative video tapes which are now replaced by computer hard disks.

Large capacity drive can record hundreds of hours of digital video which are compressed and stored digitally. Retrieving those stored videos can be pinpointed to what camera, date and time which be done in seconds.

Although cameras records every motion in the company’s premises, we can integrate surveillance system to other application of the departments, like for example the payroll system, it can be used to verify people who is punch in or punch out, eliminating the “buddy system” which in turns saves the company productive time.

Electronic Security systems can also be integrated in the system such as smoke detectors and relays, in which if triggers, the system will do event notification by calling phone of the security personnel, sounding the alarm or sending email messages. In this manner the company can reduce energy consumption by reducing the number of security devices.

Depending to the level of security threats, we can design a efficient and effective systems that caters to the level of the perceived security threats and other business risks. We can protect those videos against tampering thru proper use of backup systems.
