With more and more tourists from the different regions and neighboring countries visiting Cebu, one of the hotels in the city is targeting the expansion of its services this year.
In a press conference yesterday, Jan Kierulf, president and chief executive officer of Gran Prix Hotels and Suites, said the company will be building 100 more rooms for 2010 in the uptown area. Read more…
The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) will join in the celebration of “World Water Day” on March 22 with the theme “Clean Water for a Healthy World.”
As part of the celebration, the water district will launch its signature campaign from March 17 to 22 through a manifesto.
The manifesto contains the following: Cebuanos’ pledge to join hands in addressing the tight water situation of Metro Cebu; strictly conserve water; report water leaks, pilferages, wastage and water losses to MCWD; support Cebu City’s environmental campaign by using recycled and biodegradable materials; plant and grow more trees, report illegal logging and avoid using chemicals that might threaten the potability and safety of water; and to observe World Water Day every March 22 of the year.

Suzuki Technology formally launched its laptop line in the Philippines in Cebu City, promising speed, price and performance to attract the fast growing entry-level market segment.
The company has nothing to do with the motor vehicle brand, but it claims to have the international trademark for all IT products. The Singapore-based company took its name from its Japanese cofounder.
“Price-wise, we are on equal level with other entry-level brands but in terms of specs, we are ahead,” the company’s Singaporean sales manager Andy Ng said. “We have a competitive price and a higher specification and we try to add value to the product.” More…
As the new highly urbanized city in Cebu, Lapu-Lapu City has invested millions of pesos to expand the city’s road system as an alternative to other expensive transport systems.
Mayor Arturo Radaza, who is ending his third and last term as mayor in June 2010, said the city has widened and rehabilitated roads.

The biggest Philippine flag was delivered yesterday to Liloan town in Cebu as a symbol of fostering unity in the country in ceremonies held at a vacant three-hectare lot.
The 330 feet by 660 feet flag occupied two hectares on the ground.
The huge banner made up of 14,900 yards of nylon taffeta will stay in Liloan until March 16.
It will be folded and later brought to Mactan Island, to coincide with the commemoration of the March 16, 1521 arrival of Spanish colonizers in the Philippines. More…

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led the switched-on of the first of three units of the 246 megawatts power plant at barangay Daanlungsod, Toledo City, Cebu on March 5, ushering in the advent of a new and clean coal-fired power plant technology in Central Visayas.

Cebu has emerged as the number one tourism destination in the Philippines for 2009, the official year-end report of the Department of Tourism (DOT) revealed.
Cebu ‘s total tourist traffic arrival for the year hit 1.61 million, a 1.2 percent increase compared to the figure recorded in the previous year.
Korea remained the top tourist market for Cebu accounting for 29 percent of the total foreign tourists. Read more…

In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, Nikita Osharov, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Pelagos Tours and Travel, said, “Russian people don’t know much about the Philippines and to increase their awareness of the country and its people, we invited them to come here.”
