Sigbin: Originally Cebuano?

Original SigbinAs a child, we always experience being scolded by our grandparents, parents or even our own ‘manang’ (elder sisters). They either punish us with asin, belt or even scare us with cebuano mythical creatures like ’sigbin’ just to change the way we behave or to mellow us from an afternoon of non-stop playing. They will always scream their lungs out, “hala sige ki-at naa bayay sigbin diha sa likod”. This type of scolding has worked for me at first but as soon as I grew more ‘horns’, a harsher punishment was done.

    cliff, my parents nor my tita’s never use “sigbin” as a way to shut me up but usually belts and kneeling down works!They usually scare me with unseen forces that really really shuts my mouth up! Until now… it scares the he#l out of me..Man it sucks!

    interestind topic.. i have heard about sigbins when i was a kid.. i was not really scared of stories about it.. i have also heard that when someone finds this type of creature, one can earn 1,000,000. i dnt know if its true or juz a rumor..
