Love Of Good Food Is Cafe Laguna’s Passport To Success
28th, 2005 by nick
Home-grown restaurant chain Cafe Laguna was not an overnight success so to speak. It was started in 1979 as a small carenderia (eatery) by an enterprising Julita Urbina in a 4-door rented apartment building where the family had their residence.
The Urbinas came to Cebu in late 70’s from Manila as permanent immigrants. They found out that Cebu at that time had a very few restaurants, thus too few options to choose from whenever they needed to dine out. Going to a fine restaurant then was a tedious task, having to drive far from their home in Lahug to uptown Cebu where good restaurants were concentrated. Their love of good food and dining out too often prompted Julita Urbina to set up a small carenderia in their rented apartment unit.

Our family migrated to Cebu in 1962 from province of Laguna. Every since Cafe Laguna started in Ayala Centre, the restaurant have always served as a place for family reunions, weekend lunches or simply eating a delicious merienda. Last time we visited Cebu in Sept 2001 and June 2005, we made it a point to have our family reunion lunches at Cafe Laguna. It is not only a choice but the preferred restaurant.
More Blessing & Success to Cafe Laguna and for bringing a piece of Laguna culinary delicacies to Cebu which we now call HOME…
