Former Drug Addict Finds Freedom at Talavera Prayer House

” I wondered why my pencil case was lost. I later found out she used it to hide drugs”, Sheila (name withheld) said, referring to her mother.

Sheila was eight when she started to notice her mother acting oddly. Her parents quarrelled all the time. Her father had caught her mother taking prohibited drugs.

Her mother was not the only one in the family who got addicted to drugs. She was hooked too.

She said she started taking drugs when she was 13. She was then living in Cagayan de Oro City. Her friends introduced her to shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), an addictive stimulant that has toxic effects on the central nervous system. She told herself that if her mother could do it, why couldn’t she. It started with drinking sessions with her friends that turned into long nights of drugging. They would gather their money to buy shabu, also known as speed, chald, glass, ice, and crystal.

That’s Fax Mister!

Three men–one American, one Japanese and a Filipino were sitting naked in a sauna.

Suddenly there was a beeping sound. The American pressed his forearm and the beep stopped. The others looked at him questioningly. “That was my pager,” he said, “I have a microchip under the skin of my arm.”

A few minutes later a phone rang. The Japanese fellow lifted his palm to his ear. When he finished he explained, “That was my mobile phone. I have a microchip in my hand.”

The Filipino, not to be outdone, decided he had to do something just as impressive. He stepped out of the sauna and went into the toilet. When he returned, a piece of toilet paper was dangling from his behind. The others raised their eyebrows and stared at him. The Filipino finally said, “Well, will you look at that, I’m getting a fax.”

It is a natural substance extracted from, yes, the common red algae (guso) that we usually eat pickled. Carageenan has a natural gelling, suspending, thickening, or water-holding properties that acts as emulsifiers to numerous chemical processes in various applications such as in food and pharmaceutical industries.
