It’s NGenius!

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Raki VegaThus Spake Raki Vega, NGenius IT Hub’s first endorser.

There is a unique aura that radiates from Raki Vega’s youthful physical appearance and demeanor. She is refine yet simple and unobtrusive. She has a winsome smile that tends to endear so many people around her. She may not mince words but she speaks just as naturally polite as she can get.

No wonder then, people have only kind words to say about her. And NGenius IT Hub took notice on this petite Mandaue native.

NGenius IT Hub has known Raki Vega through the popular reality tv show, Born Diva in 2004. Her win was partly due to the overwhelming support of her fellow Cebuanos who rooted for her since day 1 through text and phone votes. When she was declared champion, Cebuanos, naturally were just as ecstatic as she was. Her vocal prowess and singing talent caught the attention of many Filipinos across the land who were enrapt anytime she performed on stage.

Egg Recipe Contest

Monday, November 21st, 2005

EggsDo you have an original recipe that you think would make everyone’s palate relish with gusto? The catch word here is ‘original’. I’m not talking about the afritada or paella that your mother serve on your dining table. They’re definitely not your original creation. Okay, you beg to differ, asserting yours is more savory. But wait, it’s innovation, not invention! Thus, it’s not original!

So forget your afritada, paella, adobo, and sarsiado for now. Go to your kitchen and check your list of stocks. Now, pore over it if you don’t miss a thing. Oops, you find no eggs!?

Egg. That’s the most important ingredient that you would want to have to create your original recipe in order to qualify for the contest. Egg. Watever egg. Chicken egg. Duck egg. Quail egg. Ostrich egg. Sorry, crocodile egg is too exotic, so set it aside for now. You may try it at home later. Go for bird’s egg in the moment.

A Smoke-Free Cebu City

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Smoking Is DangerousThe anti-smoking ordinance has been in place over a decade ago. Alright, some, not everybody, have observed this and thankfully, non-smokers have ever been gracious to the city officials for coming up with the local decree protecting their right to breathe not-so-smokey air. But as years went by, the ordinance seemed gone into oblivion. Stickers with big bold letters that spells ‘NO SMOKING’ inside PUJs and similar public conveyances glued on prominent spots of the vehicle for everybody to see have been ignored by some. Even drivers who are supposed to help the city implement the law, are the ones who deliberately violate the law.

Recently, a city legislator wants it strictly imposed by fielding volunteers to help implement the ordinance not just in public utility vehicles but also in all business establishments in the city. Along with this, a fine was increased ten times more hoping to get the violators’ attention that the law is a serious city ordinance that everybody should respect.

American Idol Constantine Maroulis in Cebu!

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

Constantine MaroulisLook how much the reality tv bug has caught up with the Cebuanos. American Idol, arguably America’s, or possibly the world’s, most popular reality tv show has produced some of the hot pop sensations in recent memory. Kelly Clarkson, the first Idol winner, is by far the most successful among them.

The 4th season of American Idol produced some of the most interesting personalities and world-class talents that even a few weeks of exposure on the show already left a lasting impression, not just on the judges but on the worldwide audience as well, creating an extraordinary cult following.

Take Constantine Maroulis. He was one of the only two rocker contestants among the group (Bo Bice was the other one). He was consistent with his true personality as a rocker. Sporting wiry shoulder-length hair, commonly identified with the rockers and denim or leather jacket over a tattered pair of denims, his choice of songs never failed to solidify his stature as a true rocker. Philippines’ Top Brands From Cebu

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

CebuHow many top brands in the country today that you know identified with Cebu?

Aside from the six names that you see here, can you name a single brand from Cebu that is recognized nationally or become a household name?

Here’s a clue. There are a lot of them. From fastfood to fast ferry. From pawnshop to bakeshop. From bank to department store. From clothing to backpack. From airline to island.

Chances are, if you were to enumerate them all, probably you can name only 10% of them, and worse, none at all. Don’t despair. Most of us don’t know. Most of us don’t even care to know. Most people think that the country’s top brands especially consumer products that become household names come from Manila just as every English-sounding name come from the United States or Chinese from China.

Ready For The World?

Monday, November 14th, 2005

19th PAC logoReady for the World?! So goes the theme of this year’s 19th Philippine Ad Congress which Cebu is hosting for the 4th time. The ambiguous punctuation marks connote uncertainty (or affirmation) if and when the advertising scene in the country is ready to take the challenge beyond its own shores.

The congress will commence on Wednesday at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel’s Cebu International Convention Center thru a screening of Cannes Grand Prix, Gold, Silver and Bronze Lion Winners at 10 a.m. Waterfront Cebu City Hotel is, again, playing host to this year’s congress for the third time as it did in 1999 and 2001.
