Run for Metro Cebu Education

Nine hundred fifty eight (958) runners from companies, academe, government, clubs, civic organizations and local communities joined the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) Run for the Future. The running event was held last December 4, 2005, with the Cebu Provincial Capitol as the finishing and starting points. The runners competed in the three-kilometer, five-kilometer and ten-kilometer categories covering four major Cebu City roads such as Osmeña Boulevard, Jones Avenue, Mango Avenue and Gorordo Avenue.     A 3rd Bridge Between Cebu And Mactan?

    The Regional Development Council VII proposal to build another bridge between Cebu City and Mactan is not only laudable but also a logical move. The present and projected growth rates of Cebu’s economy and population necessitate support infrastructures that would sustain that momentum 10 to 20 years from now.

    However, Mayor Tommy Osmeña of Cebu City and Mayor Thadeus Ouano of Mandaue City buck the proposal saying a third bridge is not yet feasible. Their opposition was echoed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The DPWH reasoned the current state of vehicular traffic on the two bridges is still manageable. Thus, a third span is not an immediate option.
