So We Think Cebu Can Become ‘The Silicon Island’?
Saturday, December 10th, 2005No. Not that one. It’s not what you have in mind. No. We are not going to manufacture silicone breasts and we don’t envision to be the center of mammaplasty or any prosthetic surgery!
I’m talking about silicon, not silicone! You should know the difference between the two, or you will get the boot quicker than you expect during your job interview for a coveted position in the engineering department.
Now let’s get down to the business. Some of us believe that Cebu can become another ‘Silicon Valley’ in Asia. Of course, this is possible. In fact any place in Asia can use the metaphor to refer to a place where silicon chip innovators and manufacturers concentrate. Taiwan in particular has long claimed the title for almost two decades already and it still holds the distinction of being the third-largest producer of high-tech products in the world, behind only the United States and Japan.
