Koreans To Build Mactan Resort
The tourism industry in Cebu has been badly hounded by the room shortage for quite some time already. The lack of more hotel rooms in Cebu stunted the tourism growth of the province until newly-appointed Tourism Secretary Ace Durano stepped in urging investors to build more hotels in the province early this year. He personally organized a trade mission to Korea by the middle of this year to drum up Koreans’ interest in investing in the Philippines especially in the tourism sector.
As a result, more and more Koreans are visiting the country and even poured capitals on various business opportunities. Cebu is now the most favorite destination both for Korean tourists and capital investments. In fact, a group of Korean investors have decided to put up a resort condotel in Mactan Island soon. They are now in the final stage of securing proper documents as requisites to start the building of the project.
The planned resort would consist of 700 rooms distributed into six towers, 250 of which are said to be for hotel use while the rest will be reserved for condotel operation. The project is expected to start construction anytime soon and will hopefully open in 2007.
Incidentally, Korea remains the top inbound foreign tourist market for Cebu after dislodging Japan in 2004 and the trend is seen to continue for years to come.

Unsa man kunoy pangalan ana nga condotel. Asa man na siya dapit buhaton. Kinsa may mga pilipino nga tag iya or partner sa mga koreans? Nindot baya ni siya kung madayon.

thanks venice for ur comment.
it is still premature to divulge the name and the site as well as the filipino partners of the project as it has not secured yet necessary documents for its building.
don’t worry though, just keep checking on this blog. we’ll post an update on this project as soon as we could.

thanks for reading our blog orlando.
cebu blog is open to all cebuanos and non-cebuanos alike who have nice articles to say about cebu, be it own experience, good news, or simply an anecdotal tales from any person in cebu.
well, the cebu boardwalk is not a mall. it’s simply an area much like the cebu business park where a complex of buildings will rise. some locators have started construction their own building already. for instance, cebu doctors university is now building its new campus at the cebu boardwalk. once completed, it will relocate its old campus from the capitol site. it will also be the future site of a korean trade and entertainment complex.
srp is still an open expanse. its development was delayed, thanks to the politicking of our government officials especially to congressman gullas who claims a portion of the srp which incensed mayor osmena so much. but there are already interested investors who want to do business in the srp such as the sm city, ayala, bigfoot entertainment for its film and television academy expansion (it has a sprawling complex already in mactan). mayor osmena is already allocating generous portions of the srp for sports facilities such as baseball and football fields, oval tracks for cycling, courts for tennis, basketball, and beach volleyball, etc. some joke that srp is indeed an acronym for sports and recreation project. but it’s a brilliant idea from our sports leaders who ask mayor osmena for some decent sports venues that cebu is lacking.
i haven’t heard about a second robinsons mall in cebu yet, but i think cebu is better off with the current number of malls. otherwise it would create a commercial space glut which is not good to the economy. both ayala and sm city cebu though are currently expanding their respective malls. once completed, sm city cebu will become the 4th biggest sm mall (after the gigantic mall of asia, sm megamall, and sm city north edsa in that order) ayala, meanwhile will accommodate another anchor department store (in addition to metro ayala) in its new extension and its lagoon area will be transformed, as they claim, into a place like no other in the country.
which one are you referring to? the gaisano country mall in banilad or the abandoned mall of cebu along n. bacalso ave.? the one in banilad, the country mall, is already operational since mid 1990s. the banilad area, stretching from cebu country club up to foodland is now the newest center of commercial and entertainment activities in cebu. in addition to gaisano country mall, it has many competitor lesser malls sprouting in the vicinity including the banilad town center which is a beautiful mall that proximates the size of gaisano country mall nearby, minus a department store. but it has an anchor supermarket, the robinsons supermarket. university of cebu has a new campus across the country mall for its information technology, law and nursing courses.
the gaisano mall of cebu along the south superhighway, well, it’s been abandoned already and they have no plans of resurrecting it.
please continue checking this blog daily about the most recent development of our own cebu.

Good evening jorge,
Thank you very much for the answers, but i have seen the rendering of the Cebu Boardwalk Mall, The floor plan and it includes the anchor store which is the Robinsons. I always visit the website of skyscrappercity and they also mentioned about the proposed mall. And regarding the Gaisano Mall of Cebu (along N. Bacalso ave.) i also read in the skyscrappercity web that the owner will purse the development of the mall. Jorge im sorry but im just very excited with the way our beloved Cebu developed so please check for me if the construction of these two mall already started. And lastly if there are locators alredy at the srp, then how come they have not started yet their construction? Is there a problem with the land title?
Thank you Jorge and cheers.

Sorry but honestly I haven’t heard of a plan for another Robinson’s Mall or any expansion plans in Cebu just yet. I don’t know where they got that info.
About the Gaisano Mall, I also don’t know where these people got their info because I live at Marijoy Apt. Village next to the lot where unfinished Gaisano Mall of Cebu is standing. The site is now invaded with weeds and the rusty steel beams are still standing. No construction activity seen. Maybe the construction of the new Engineering building of CIT was mistaken for that of Gaisano Mall which abuts the lot of the school.
No construction has ever started at SRP maybe because the problem surrounding the controversial project has been just partly resolved, thus the city wasn’t able to sell to investors yet. The city has just issued a statement that srp is now open for any locators to the project.
thanks and i hope u can post articles in this blog too.

hi,
I would like to know if the Villa Plumeria condominium construction inside the coral reef hotel complex have been finished?
Coz my friend told me that he invested tons of money in that condominium. He bought the unit thru “Palm Tree Estates Inc.” sometime in the early 1990’s.
But He said that it was a scam because until now, the supposedly project “VILLA PLUMERIA” is not finished
and he doesn’t even know who to contact regarding his condo or how to get his money back if ever he can get a refund of his investment.
But he heard lately that Sec. ace durano said in the sun star daily that the coral reef hotel will re-open soon.
So is this true and will the condominium construction be finished too.
Thanks,
Chickoy

My Thoughts on New Victorian Suites
I have recently stayed at New Victorian Suites in Lincoln Nebraska, and wanted to share with you guys my experience.
I usually don’t do this type of thing, but they really surprised me in terms of the quality of service. The rooms were exceptionally clean, the beds and furniture were brand new just like you would find in high end hotels. And most importantly, they responded quickly with any sort of request.
If you’re around Lincoln Nebraska any time son, consider New Victorian Suites.
