Sinulog Bazaar at Plaza Independencia
27th, 2005 by blinky
The Sinulog Bazaar is an annual event initiated by Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña to give traders and merchants from outside Cebu a chance to legally sell their goods during the Christmas and Sinulog seasons which run from early December to end of January.
The Plaza Independencia, a historic city park adjacent to the equally historic Fort San Pedro, is transformed into a mini bazaar where locals and visitors alike can hunt for items at bargain prices. Stalls are spread out in open spaces of the park selling just about anything they can think of which is of interest to the tourists and local residents alike.
Among the best-selling items are the native handicrafts such as bags made of osier, hats, home decors, kitchen utensils, batik clothing, footwear, jewelries and accessories for women.
For out-of-towners who have not gone there yet, you may want to check it out. Plaza Independencia is located where Osmeña Blvd. ends to the east. It is just a short walking distance or two blocks away from either Basilica Minore del Santo Niño or Cebu City Cathedral.
The bazaar is open from 8:00 a.m. until very late in the evening.
