The Abellana Alumni Association (AAA) of Abellana National School has come up with the idea of putting up a bust to honor the late Chief Justice Marcelo B. Fernan, the school’s most famous alumni. Fernan still holds the record as the only Filipino to head both the Judicial and Legislature, as Chief Justice and Senate president, the fourth and third highest position in the country, respectively.

AAA president Antonio Tompar, who is also the president of Mactan Rock Industries Inc., disclosed the plan during the celebration of the school’s centennial founding anniversary last Saturday. Fernan was an epitome of what a public servant should be - dignified humility and sincere and untarnished record serving his countrymen as a government public official. He has given so much pride to the Cebuanos and the whole Filipino populace.
