UP Cebu Fine Arts Holds 30th Joya Awards

The Fine Arts Students Organization (FASO) of the University of the Philippines Cebu College will be holding its 30th Jose Joya Awards and 31st Annual Students Exhibit on February 17 at the SM Art Center.

Now on its 3oth year, the Joya Awards is the most prestigious school-based award-giving body for a painting competition outside Manila. It features the finest works of Fine Arts students of the University of the Philippines Cebu for the fiscal year. All the works on exhibit underwent pre-screening process before they can qualify for exhibition and competition.

Koreans virtually are everywhere in recent years. Just about everywhere you go in the metro or in the popular beach destinations around Cebu, it is not unusual to spot a group of Koreans. You can spot them shopping at the supermarket or haggling with a vendor at Carbon, belting songs at ktv joints, guzzling a bottle of San Miguel beer at streetside store, swinging at a fairway at Cebu Country Club, basking under the sun at Cebu Hilton Resort & Spa beachfront, or scuba diving at Moalboal.

And yes, they are also visible in the business world. Korean restaurants are now aplenty so are Korean specialty stores selling used clothing and general merchandise stores. And reports have it that Korean investors now operate their own small resorts in the province.

LED Advertising Is Now In Cebu!

If you happened to pass by Gaisano Country Mall just recently you must notice a huge billboard you think is a huge television screen installed for Pacquiao-Morales rematch in September this year. If it were true, then it is too early to put up such expensive undertaking.

Yes, it is indeed a large screen but not of a television. It is the latest technology called LED that some advertisers adopt to get the upper hand in the competition. LED is an acronym for light emitting diode.

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that emits incoherent narrow-spectrum light when electrically biased in the forward direction. This effect is a form of electroluminescence. The color of the emitted light depends on the chemical composition of the semiconducting material used, and can be near-ultraviolet, visible or infrared.
