The latest wireless technology which is the fodder of wireless communication conversations today is WiMax. WiMAX is an acronym that stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, and according to Wikipedia, a certification mark for products that pass conformity and interoperability tests for the IEEE 802.16 standards.

Products that pass the conformity tests for WiMAX are capable of forming wireless connections between them to permit the carrying of internet packet data. It is similar to WiFi in concept, but has certain improvements that are aimed at improving performance and should permit usage over much greater distances.

The winners of the Sinulog 2006 Photo and Video Competition were finally revealed during the Awarding Ceremonies on January 31, 2006 at SM City Cebu.

The awarding ceremony at the Entertainment Plaza of SM City Cebu was attended by top officials of Cebu Province and Cebu City.

Two Cebuanos bagged the top prizes in both Photo and Video documentary competitions. Ruel Antipuesto was declared winner in the Video Documentary while Amper Campaña got the top prize in the Photo category.

The Dona Modesta Singson Gaisano Foundation Painting Competition is now in its 16th year, discovering and developing raw talents from Arts students from the different schools in Cebu. It is also a venue where noted Cebuano or Cebu-based artists show their innate talents hoping to bag big cash prizes at stake.

Held every January in Carcar, the annual painting competition was founded in honor to the matriarch of the Gaisano family in Cebu. The competition has two categories - one for sudents and another for the pros. This year’s tilt has its subjects, the Kiosk at the rotunda for the professionals category and the facade of the church of St. Catherine of Alexandria for the students category.
