The Resurgence of Japan as Cebu’s Top Tourist Market
Tuesday, February 7th, 2006Japanese tourists used to be the lords of the tourist arrivals chart for many years until Koreans dislodged them two years ago. Blame it on bad publicities the country get such as the kidnappings of foreigners in the southern part of the Philippines and political squabbles that discouraged many Japanese travellers from visiting the country. The travel ban issued by its government also resulted to the decrease of the Japanese visitors to the Philippines.
Although sidelined for two years as Cebu’s second biggest tourist market, the Japanese arrivals in the previous year saw a sign of decent growth following the lifting of travel ban and the improving economy of Japan. Seeing the Japanese poised to take the top spot back it had lost to Koreans, the Department of Tourism 7 is coming up with strategy that would focus on the Japanese market alone.
