SPEEDO National Triathlon in Danao City
Danao City is becoming an emerging sports capital of Cebu. It has been a popular choice for local and national sports tournaments such as mountain bike and triathlons in recent years. In fact, the city hosted successfully the mountain bike event in last year’s SEA Games.
This time around, another exciting sports event is about to take place in this small industrial city located about 45 kilometers from the capital, Cebu City. Danao City is proud to host the second leg of the SPEEDO-National Age-Group Triathlon on March 26, 2006. The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) and the Danao City Sports Commission (DCSC) have already designed a new route specifically for this leg.
Participants will have to swim a distance of 1,000 meters (1 kilometer) on sea waters of Danao Fish Port, then pedal their way to a total of 30 kilometers on the national road and run for about seven kilometers to the finish line.
Triathletes are divided into different age-brackets: 19-years-old and below, 20-24-, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54 and 55-above.
At stake in the event are series of qualifying points for the top 20 male and female finishers. Medals and gift items/certificates are also up for grabs to all age-group winners, while a custom-made tees will be handed out to all the finishers.
To add excitement to the event, a team relay will be contested. Each team shall be composed of two to three members. In a two-team relay event, participants shall decide among themselves as to who will do two of the three disciplines. For a three-member team, each member will be assigned to a specific discipline (one will swim, one will bike and one will run).
Each participant is required to pay P300 and P350 entry fee from March 20 towards the race day. It already includes a race packet, swim cap, post-race breakfast and finisher’s t-shirt. However a 20 percent discount will be granted to students and senior citizens if they can show valid IDs as proof. Moreover, triathletes registered with the TRAP will enjoy a 10 percent discount.
