Kabayo Festival: A Different Kind of Attraction

HorseraceIf you’ve been to the Kabayo Festival 2006 held recently in Mandaue City which hosted the annual event this year, you would surely agree with DOT regional director to make Kabayo Festival a regular tourism event.

The yearly Kabayo Festival drew unprecedented number of people who were too curious as to what really the festival was all about. Kabayo is a Cebuano term for a horse. Other Filipino ethnics also use the same term for the graceful ungulate animal.

Not many Cebuanos know about the festival except that it is a horse festival. But many wonder what on earth do the horses do in the festival? Do horses perform tricks as much as dogs do in a dog show? Do horses retrieve a ball? Do horses compete galloping in a slalom course? Do they balance on their hooves upon a large ball just like elephants do in a circus?
