Perk Up Your Day With Perky

Fine dining restaurants may not offer home-made cooking but their food is, almost always, excellent. However these restaurants offer excellent food at a price most of us can’t afford. Oftentimes we lower our standard just to get by. So we head for the cheapo restaurants whose food our dogs at home even hesitate to eat.

But not all cheap restaurants dish up bland foods. Take Perky. It is a new eating station where one can have a fill of their home-style cooked food after a day’s work. As its name suggests, it will certainly perk up the whole uptown area with its exciting array of gastronomic delights cooked the way your mother does at home.

Lance Gokongwei: Entrepreneur of the Year 2005 - Philippines

President and CEO of Cebu Air, Inc. adjudged as Ernst & Young 2005 Philippines Entrepreneur of the Year.

Mr. Lance Gokongwei grew up in a family of entrepreneurs where business was regular fare at the dinner table. He cites his father - John Gokongwei, Jr. - as his strongest influence and mentor, and who encouraged him and his sisters to start their own businesses.

De La Hoya’s GBP Signs Up Gorres and Bautista

Impressed by the way these two promising young prizefighters fought in their respective last fights - one, a Cebuano fighter against Waengpetch last Saturday and the other, a Boholano against Gerardo Espinoza in December 2005. Golden Boy Promotions made no hesitations and quickly made a decision any promotional outfit would turn green with envy - signing them up.

The Los Angeles-based promotional outfit of Oscar “Golden Boy” de la Hoya has signed up with the country’s current hottest boxing talents, Z “The Dream” Gorres and Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista. Golden Boy Promotions is forging an alliance with international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz, SGG Promotions, and Cebu-based ALA Boxing Management to bring some of the hottest Filipino talents to the United States and groom them to stardom. ALA Boxing Management is a training ground for young and promising talents where Gorres and Bautista come from.

Finally, A Dream Come-True For Z Gorres

Z GorresThe dream is just another dream until you make it come true. And there’s nothing sweeter in one man’s world than a triumphal conquest of his dream.

That was exactly what happened last Saturday night at the jampacked Mandaue City Sports & Cultural Complex when our very own Z “The Dream” Gorres as he masterfully out-scored, outpunched and out-jabbed his Thai opponent Waengpetch Chuwatana.

But Gorres has a bigger dream. A dreamer as he is, he dreams of a bigger fight, a bigger name, and possibly a bigger prize at stake. And that seems to be not an easy road to travel as he knows it. Although he was happy to wear the belt that he has longed for in his still young career, he was somewhat disappointed he was not able to knock him (Waengpetch) out in their 12-round match which was hailed as the biggest so far in any of Gorres’ fight. The boxing fans who trooped to the complex and queued for three hours was estimated to be anywhere between 10,000 to 12,000 strong.
