Boljoon: Cebu’s Own Gibraltar

Poblacion WaterfrontIf you are familiar with Gibraltar, then you know why Boljoon is likened to that famous UK Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of Iberian Peninsula in Europe. Like the famous Gibraltar, the town’s coastal topography is breath-takingly beautiful.

Boljoon is one of the oldest towns in the southern part of Cebu’s main island. It is located 103 kilometers from the provincial capital, in the southeastern seaboard. Noted for its quaint and picturesque terrain, the town is generally mountainous and rugged and has almost no coastal plains except in the town proper. Its rugged coasts are bordered by cliffs and luxuriant hills, which have a commanding view of Bohol Strait.

Search Is On For Entrepreneur of the Year

The annual search for Cebu’s Entrepreneur of the Year is now in full swing. The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is now accepting nominations for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award which will cap off the month-long celebration of Cebu Business Month in June.

The deadline for submission of entries is April 30, 2006.

The Entrepreneur of the Year Award is a search for outstanding Cebuanos or Cebu-based businessmen whose enterprising skills have contributed significantly to the local and national economy.

It recognizes vital contributions among leaders and catalysts of change who build and sustain world-class businesses that are a testament to vision, leadership, achievement and social responsibility.

Budoy: Cebu’s Adopted Son (Unofficially)

BudoyMost Cebuanos didn’t know Budoy until his stint on ABS-CBN’s reality show PBB Celebrity Edition which is currently running every night.

Budoy has been on a boob tube longer than most of us thought. He has been a permanent host of the local show Ismol Taym on channel 36, a local cable channel.

To the benefit of the general public, Budoy is also the front man of the multi-awarded dub reggae band in the country, Junior Kilat. He is behind the vocals of the infectious song, “Ako Si M16″, which was chosen Song Of The Year in the NU107 Rock Awards. A musician at heart, he plays indigenous musical instruments such as kubing and kulintang with dexterity.

Two US Arnis Officials Visit Cebu

Two top US officials of the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) from the United States are currently in town for a five-day visit.

Kelli Sipin and Justin Lemke, vice chairman and executive director of the organizing council of the 9th World Championships, were scheduled to meet Grandmaster Dionisio Cañete and other local arnis officials to discuss on matters concerning the 9th World Eskrima Kali Arnis Championships which will be held on July 2-8 this year at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida.

The two officials, who are from Four Winds Martial Arts of Milaukee, Wisconsin, flew to Cebu to specifically seek approval of their proposal to introduce new events and some modifications to the tournament rules.
